1920's XLarge 14K White Gold Shell Cameo of Flora Diamond Habille Brooch Pendant

Being presented here is a super lovely shell cameo brooch in Habille style: "Mint Superb 1920's Large 14K White Gold Shell Cameo of Flora 0.07 Carat Diamond Habille Brooch Pendant". This piece depicts a classical mythological subject, the goddess of flora.

In this cameo, Flora wears six roses in her hair and one forget-me-not flower on her left shoulder. Around her neck is a very thin chain pendant which holds a stunning diamond in the center. The cameo is set in a gorgeous 14k white gold filigree frame decorated with eight flowers in the fleur-de-lis style, styling lily flower. The fleur-de-lis is a royal and regal design dating back centuries and is a beautiful symbol to use as a wedding theme, meaning "love with bloom".

Let's go back the subject of this cameo. In Roman mythology, Flora was a goddess of flower and the season of spring. Flora was a relatively minor figure in Roman mythology. However, being one among several fertility of goddesses, her association with the spring gave her particular importance at the coming of springtime. Flora's husband is Favonius, the wind god, and Hercules was her companion. Goddess Flora is one of the most popular mythological subjects that is often depicted in cameos. But this one is very special regarding the carving skills of the master-craftmanship, the size, the condition, and the Habille style that typically represents a particular time.

A true story behind this cameo: This cameo was an old lady's wedding gift from her husband in the late 1920's. It was never worn and has been kept safely in her jewelry box for such a long long time.

This piece comes with a copy of an official appraisal that was done in 2005 by a certified appraiser from the National Gemological Laboratories.
