Victorian Etruscan Revival 18ct Yellow Gold High-relief Lava Cameo of Goddess Aphrodite (Venus) and Her Son Eros (Cupid)

This is a very exceptional intricately carved high-relief Lava scenic cameo that depicts Goddess Aphrodite (Venus) and her son Eros (Cupid). In this scene, baby Eros is playing with his mom by trying to take the torch from her hand. Aphrodite is looking at her son, smiling. Her symbol animal, love doves are around beside with a bouquet of roses. A lot of intricate details carved in this scene with excellent 3D effect. There are large amount of lava cameos were produced through the Great Tour era, however, among those lava cameos left today, which mostly are portraits, it is truly rare to see such an intricately detailed lave scenic cameos survived through almost 200 years. This piece is a truly piece of art that deserves to be added into collections of cameo lovers!

The lava cameo is set into a gold bezel, surrounded by Etruscan Revival styled frame with handmade gold beads and twisted rope edge as finish. No mark, but acid tested as 18k solid yellow gold. It has a T hinged pin, and a later replaced modern secure clasp, with a repair mark on the place of the clasp. The Aphrodite unfortunately has a broken right arm. Other than that, all carvings remain smooth, crisp, and clean carving lines.

Size is large, measured as 2.45" x 2.2" (61mm x 54mm). Weight 32.10 grams.
