Very heavy (30 lbs.)solid wood sculpture of an Asian Boy "Karako" with a ball. An important figure in the portrayal of children is the Chinese child or karako.
The little children design often on pottery symbolizes health for sons and daughters and longevity / continuity.
Thanks to a fellow Ruby Lane shop owner ( Sharon from Many Faces of Japan) I have now correctly identified this wonderful sculpture.
30" long, 16" tall at the head and weighing 30 lbs.
Used as a foot stool / foot rest. If it was somewhat smaller it could be Identified as an opium pillow, or just sitting somewhere he looks outstanding.
It's a great conversation piece.
Condition is excellent, no chips, marks or repairs. No markings as to where it was made or by whom.
Because he is so heavy he might need special packaging which we can discuss when purchasing.
