A Rare American Folk Art Box Made From Burnt Wood Matchsticks, Wooden Rulers, And Applied Wood Carvings. This Form Of Folk Art Is Sometimes Referred To As Prison Art. On This Box There Are Applied Carvings On Three Sides Of The Box As Well As The Entire Top Of The Box. Each Side Has A Carved Profile While The Front Of The Box Has Garlands And Flowers Along With Geometric Designs Made From The Matchsticks. The Top Of The Box Has Wooden Rulers Along The Rim Of An Ornately Carved Reclining Nude Amid A Foliated Background. There Is A Large Split On One Side Of The Lid And Several Missing Matchsticks Along The Edges But Nothing Distracting. The Inside Has Dark Red Fabric And Is Worn Through On The Bottom. All Imperfections Are Acceptable Age Related Wear. The Box Measures 11" Long x 8" Tall x 6 3/4" Deep. This Unique Folk Art Box Is An Exceptional Piece Of Americana.
