Vintage Floral Porcelain and Sterling Silver Photo Locket Pendant.
A little confusing at first as I thought that the porcelain (seen in the main photo) was the front of the locket and as you can see the hinge is on the right side, so that would mean it opened from the left but then I realized that the back of the locket is actually the front and meant to hold the photo of a loved one. The clasp opens to the front, which is still a little odd but the combination of all these things is what makes this vintage beauty so interesting to me.
The pretty floral design is in shades of pink, yellow, blue, lavender and green and appears to be upside down but I believe that the flowers are done swag style. It is unmarked other than what appears to be maybe 2 numbers on the back of the porcelain but they are very difficult to make out. I have acid tested the silver, with results showing sterling. The combination of the Victorian style floral swag, the catch and the locket itself tells me that this is from around the turn of the century, but it could be as recent as the 1930's.
The oval measures 1 3/4" by 1 3/8" (44mm by 35mm).
It would look great on a silk chord in black or any of the colors in the floral display.
Very good vintage condition. The clasp is secure and the locket's only flaw is a small chip to the porcelain on the inside, which does not show through to the front.
