Vintage Sphinx Jewellery of England Faux Pearl and Rhinestone Pin.
To me, this great design is reminiscent of possibly an octopus or with the etched tendrils, a blooming flower, either way it's gorgeous and beautifully made. I love big faux pearl and smattering of rhinestones. It does show a little age, in the color of the goldtone (slightly faded and worn on the edges of the leaves). All rhinestones are intact and the faux pearl is in perfect condition.
Sphinx Jewelry was founded by S. Root in the late 1940's (Chiswick, London, UK) and continued operations until the 1990's. Their high quality pieces were sold as Sphinx and also under various designer names at major department stores.
Marked Sphinx on a cartouche and numbered A2419. Sphinx jewellery used both the name on the cartouche and an alpha numeric design number. Some pieces were only marked with the design number.
Measures 2" wide by 2 1/4" long (50mm by 57mm). The faux pearl measures 15mm.
Very good vintage condition and wonderfully unique piece of collectible jewelry.
