Antique 1870 Watercolor on Paper, Bird with Morning Glory by Fred A Bancker.
I don't usually deal in paintings but this pretty little sparrow with the vibrant blue morning glory, signed and dated, was too good to pass up. The painting itself is in very good condition with one small water mark at the bottom right (see 2nd to last pic at right). The cardboard backing does have water damage as seen in the last pic but has only carried through to that one small spot, which measures approximately 1". The frame is also showing age related damage and not of superior quality. The matte shows age related discoloration. I considered removing the painting from the frame but decided to leave that up to it's new owner.
I have extensively researched Fred A Bancker and have come up empty with exception of a Brooklyn toy maker from about the same time period....possibly he liked to do a little painting on the side.
The painting is signed Fred A. Bancker, Sept 13 1870 - Please see 4th pic at right for a clear image of the signature.
The frame measures 15.5" by 11", the matte is 2" and the painting measures 10.5" by 6.5".
