Vintage 1950s Baroque Style White Faux Pearl Earrings Signed Hattie Carnegie.
A nice pair of earrings from one of costume jewelry's biggest names. The faux pearls range in size from 6mm to 12mm with lever backs and are signed Carnegie.
Hattie Carnegie is one of the remarkable women of the early 20th century. An immigrant girl who worked her way to the top, in a time when women had very few rights. What they went through to start businesses and gain respect is nothing short of remarkable. I have written many blog posts on these women as their fortitude, under less than perfect conditions, is inspiring in every way. She began her business in 1909 and by 1929 her name was one to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. By the 1930's, she was iconic and her pieces were sought after by Hollywood's finest. Hattie died in 1956. Her jewelry continued through the 1970's but the pieces designed and approved by Hattie, were marked with one of the following: Hattie Carnegie in an oval cartouche, Carnegie (script) or HC on diamond shape. Pieces that were designed after her death, were marked with a hang tag. These earrings are marked with Carnegie in script and hail from the 1940's or 1950's.
