Vintage Bourjois Evening in Paris Lipstick, Mirror, Powder and Rouge Compact with Original Box.
Evening in Paris perfume was created by Ernest Beaux for French perfumer Bourjois in 1928, as most of you know the rest is history. Bourjois was founded in 1863 as a manufacturer of face powders and make up. Compacts came on the scene in the early 1900's and once they arrived, they blossomed quickly. Changing, more inclusive designs and a constant one upmanship between the cosmetic companies...they found what women loved and they were going to make the most of it!
This lovely compact was a family affair from the moment it entered my house. In almost unused condition, the lipstick refused to open...we all took a shot at figuring out what the magical opening move was...finally, with many thanks to my brother in law, success! A simple twist (who knew!:)) made not so simple from 60 years of sitting in a box. He did have to take out the pliers, so you will notice a small dent in the lipstick case which I have shown in the last pic at right. This is the only flaw to the compact. The rouge and lipstick have never been used with the rouge still having the Evening in Paris stamp on the makeup. The powder puff is there but the compartment is very clean, with powder removed long ago. The mirror is in excellent condition as is the finish on all pieces, even the box is in remarkable condition.
The box is marked Bourjois on the outside and Evening in Paris on the inside. The compact is marked with the refill numbers for the lipstick and rouge. The back of compact is marked Bourjois New York Distributor with a small oval paper label noting the makeup shades of Rose Indian and Medium. A soft cloth carrying case is included.
Compact measures 3 3/8" by 2 3/8" with a depth of 3/8".
