Vintage Hall China for Westinghouse Blue & Yellow Refrigerator Bowl Set - 12 Piece
Mid Century Refrigerator Containers with Lids, in Blue & Yellow from Hall China Company for Westinghouse.
Hall China Company was founded in 1903 (East Liverpool, Ohio) by Robert Hall. Mr. Hall was somewhat of a leader in this industry, as he developed both a high heat, single fire, bisque glaze and also a lead-less glaze that would prevent crazing, hold heat and not absorb moisture.
The refrigerator pieces were designed specifically for Westinghouse during the 1940's and 1950's. These were days when you got a little more bang for you buck and the appliance companies would offer promotional items to go along with your new purchase.
There are 4 blue bowls with 4 yellow lids and 2 blue rectangular containers with 2 yellow Westinghouse lids for 12 pieces in all. The bowls measure 2.5" high and 4" in diameter, the rectangular pieces measure 3.25" high, 7" long and 4.25" wide.
This set is in very good condition with the following flaws....there is some reddish staining (my guess is spaghetti sauce) to the inside of one rectangular container, a small chip (4mm) and a slightly rough edge that covers a 1" area to the lid of one round container and a small chip to the outside top corner (4mm and only visible with the lid off) of one rectangular container (see pics 4, 6 and 7 at right).
