Vintage Mid Century Modern Studio Pottery Cruet from French Ceramicist Marcel Guillot in Burnt Orange, Gray and Cream.
Marcel Guillot ( France 1910 - 1984 ) began his career at Sevres after studying at the School of Applied Arts in Paris. He would go on to open his own studio in Paris and become the President of the French Union of Ceramic Artists. His work was considered Utilitarian by some, which is evident in this design. I find the beauty in the simplicity. This is one of those pieces that you just love to hold in your hands.
The vase measures 7 1/4" high and 4 5/8" in diameter, holding 12 ounces.
Guillot's Studio Pottery pieces are difficult to come by and quite collectible.
Incised Guillot signature on base. Incised marks aren't quite as common with Guillot and you will find that there is quite a range in his signature, most likely due to his range of sales in the European and US market, as well as his various business and artist collaborations.
There is a small chip on the underside, measuring 1/2" by 3/8". The chip is only visible when you look at the underside and is simply a thin "slice" on the raised edge of the base, so it does not effect the way it stands or looks in any way ( please see last 2 photos below ). I have, however, priced it accordingly.
Thank you so much for stopping by and as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
