Vintage 1955 Brazil and Argentina Coat of Arms Wall Plaques - Set of 2

Interesting wood plaques that took me down a research road leading to the Feb. 1955 South American Soccer Championship games in Chile. I knew that there had to be a connection, as the two plaques came from the same estate collection. Each is signed Feb. 1955 on the back and stamped Argentina (barely visible). A search turned up the games, in which Argentina won, Chile was runner up and Brazil (as well as other countries) withdrew. My thinking is that these plaques were made for tourists during the games, in the month or so prior to the other countries backing out. Oddly, someone used the 1955 on the Argentina plaque for subtraction...you can see by the numbers above and below "55". The Brazil plaque has no such equation. They are also signed "Alesa" in the middle of each one. "Estados Unidos Do Brasil" The United States of Brazil, was only used during the 1950's and 1960's after which it became the Federative Republic of Brazil, which further verifies the dates. 65,000 people attended the event held on March 30, 1955 at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile. There is no mention of soccer on the plaques, but I'm very confident that these were made for tourists during the games.

The wood color of each plaque is the same, unfortunately lighting in the first photo makes the Brazil plaque seem lighter. Please view individual photos. Each plaque measures 9.5" in diameter and each does have some wear. The Brazil plaque has 4 small paint stars missing from the circle and some scratching to the top side of the wood. The Argentina plaque has some small chips to bottom underside of the edge and overall groove lines. Other than the missing stars on the Brazil plaque, the artwork itself is in very good condition, as are the plaques as a whole (please view last photos below). Each plaque has hook and is ready to add to your wall. The vibrant images are sure to be conversation starters, so be sure to keep the info above on hand:).

Thank you so much for stopping by and as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
