Vintage Floral Russian Lacquer Pin in Shades of Orange, Yellow, Blue and Green.
I love these little works of art from Russia. This style of art originated with the end of icon painting that led the artists to find a new outlet for their creativity. Hand painted in either oils or egg tempura based paints, depending on the region and highly detailed.
These are usually done with a safety pin clasp embedded in the wood. This one is done with an older hook/C clasp and longer pin bar, leading me to believe that it could be older than what I had originally thought but to be on the safe side, we'll date it to the mid 20th century.
Signed Uba, followed by 2 Russian letters (vertical line with circle at top and what appears to be an "e")
Pin measures 2 3/8" by 1 1/2" ( 60mm by 38mm)
Excellent condition (whiteness shown on left of pin is a reflection of sunlight).
Thank you so much for stopping by and as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
