Fresh from an Estate in Mendham, New Jersey is this wonderful Victorian sterling silver repousse nail file. Nail file has a lovely intricate hand etched repousse dimensional design which is found on both sides. There is as well a blank cartouche found on either side and may be used to personalize if so desired.

File measures approximately just shy of 2 inches in length by 3/8 inches in width not counting the attached ring. Total weight of this piece is 8.01 grams. Found on the bottom of one cartouche to the right is marked 925 over 1000 and to the right it’s marked Sterling. At the base of the steel file is marked ‘Germany’. Above the Sterling mark in a cartouche I believe is the initials of the company or person responsible for the creation of this piece but at this time far too small for me to decipher.

This nail file was very much enjoyed and used at the end of the 1800’s to the early 1900’s. It may have been worn on a chatelaine, or as a fob on the end of a pocket watch. All etching is in extremely nice condition and very crisp on both sides. There are a couple of very small dints found on the cartouche and if you decide to have this nail file monogramed that will certainly be the perfect fix for this nominal issue.
