It is extremely difficult to pinpoint the exact period of time when this petite sterling fluted vase was created by George W. Shiebler and Company. What I can say is the stamp indicates that it is within the time frame circa 1910 - 1920 when Gorham acquired this company. When Gorham acquired Shiebler it changed the logo slightly by creating a reverse ‘S’ in the center. I was able to find information on the Silver Collections site to corroborate my research.

There is lovely repousse/chasing found in the round with each view changing in excitement and design. This vase will hold a clutch of wild flowers or perhaps a couple of flowers with accompanying greens. Vase measures approximately 4 ¼ in height with the widest section being the base at 1 ¾ inches in diameter. Total weight of this item is 48.31 grams.

The top is a modified trumpet style with the top and bottom of this vessel being fluted. Piece is clearly marked on the bottom and reads ‘Sterling’, then the Shiebler stamp with the unusual reverse ‘S’ and finally a production number of "2439". Condition is extremely nice with wonderful clear crisp detail in abundance.

History: George W. Shiebler & Co. located in Baltimore, Maryland in 1846 and eventually moved his business to Brooklyn, New York in 1920. In 1876 - 1891 ran his company using his own name, in 1892 the firm was incorporated as George W. Shiebler & Co. In 1910 Shiebler closed his doors, dissolved the firm and worked for Gorham until his death in 1920.
