Quite recently the intrinsic beauty of the Larimar stone was brought to my attention and this would be a classic example of this gorgeous stone. This semi-precious stone captures the remarkable beauty of the Caribbean Sea with lovely mottled shades of blue.
Many pieces of Larimar display the host rock which is a brownish black tone with this piece there is very little evidence of this with the exception of a minute amount showing where the bale meets the stone. I must add that this was only noticed on very close inspection with a 10x triplet loupe and can’t be seen with naked eye.
Chain measures approximately 16 inches in length with the pendant length measuring 1 ¾ inches and a width at the widest portion being 8 mm’s. To the back of the bale holding the Larimar is clearly written ‘14k’, marked on the chain is ‘Italy KT14’ and on the spring ring is written ‘14k’.
The stone is hand cut and polished and is in exceptional condition. 14K chain is also in excellent condition without kinks or repairs noted. Total weight of this pendant and chain is 5.21 grams.
Found only in a limited deposit in the Dominican Republic, the Larimar gemstone also called Stefilia’s Stone is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite. Its coloration varies from white, light blue, green blue to deep blue. More often it is a lovely sea blue color very reminiscent of the Caribbean.
