What a stunningly rare late Victorian early Edwardian brooch and button set that I have the honor to present to you today. Normally you may find the brooch, or simply the buttons. Sometimes you will find the set but without the presentation box. This wonderful set is complete in every way.
The case itself is preserved and in extremely fine condition. Pressing the button on the front side will release the catch to expose a creamy colored silk and velvet inside lining in remarkable condition. There are no tears or compromised fabric noticed and creates a lovely presentation.
Inside the box you will find a matching blue white and gold guilloche brooch and buttons all mounted on a sterling frame. On the top portion of the box are three coiled metal attachments. These would have been used to secure the buttons to the back of the blouse.
On the back of the brooch is a fancy cartouche with the maker’s mark and lower down on this piece is written ‘Sterling Silver Rims & Backs’. Brooch measures 1 1/8 inches in length by just over a ½ inch in width and comes with a ‘C’ clasp closure. The buttons are identical, perfectly matched and measure 3/8 inches in diameter.
Enamel is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or damaged portions. However on the top surface of the brooch there is some age appropriate wear found. Normally I usually clean and polish most of my offerings but in this case I decided to leave the patina alone and showcase this perfectly preserved presentation as found. Please enjoy my photographs.
