186_ Galena & Chicago Union RR Stock. Attractive early railroad scripophily certificate (a different variety than usually seen) with woodcut vignettes of steam train, Washington, and a female. The Galena & Chicago Union was chartered 1836 to connect Chicago with the lead mines at Galena. It was the first railroad constructed out of Chicago, but never reached as far as Galena. In 1862 it was leased in perpetuity to the Cedar Rapids & Missouri Railroad which eventually was first railroad to reach Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Galena & Chicago Union consolidated with the Chicago and North Western Railway in 1864. VF+ condition.
Purchasing Notes: Payment by check or PayPal. You can opt out of insurance, which I generally recommend. Ruby Lane strongly encourages insurance. However, this may not make sense on scripophily shipments (which are not exactly breakable). My experience in mailing thousands of packages is that less than one out of 500 packages does not arrive in good condition. Still, Insurance is recommended on orders over $100. On multiple certificate orders Ruby Lane does not compute the insurance charge correctly. I will correct overpayments, but it is best to get accurate order amount before paying. Do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
