18__ Alden Type Setting & Distributing Machine Co Stock Certificate. Nifty unissued scripophily stock certificate with vignette of company's typesetting machine and portraits of the founders, Timothy and Henry Alden. In 1857 Timothy Alden of New York was granted a patent for a typesetting machine. This was the first successful typesetting machine. The type was arranged in cells around the circumference of a horizontal wheel. As the wheel revolved, several receivers also started to rotate. The desired type was picked up and dropped in proper order in a line. Certificate is in EF condition.
Purchasing Notes: Payment by check or PayPal. Insurance is bundled with shipping. I use a third party shipping insurer (not USPS, which does not insure 1st class large envelops, and is seriously overpriced due to pervasive fraudulent claims). I offer two domestic shipping choices: $3.50 for first class, and $9.00 for Priority. Priority is recommended for orders over $100. International shipping is $6.00 for a large 1st class envelope. Other international options are usually too expensive. Shipping charge does not increase if you order more than one item. Do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
