Being offered is a great piece of early glass manufacturing, Circa 1840-1860. The single goblet is colorless with two etched griffins placed 180 degrees from each other. The glass is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and no chips, cracks or scratches. The glass and the stem were formed separately and joined with a concealed wafer. I do not believe the goblet is American, most probably it is Continental. The bottom of the base has a rough pontil and nice even wear
The two griffins are finely done. One winged griffin is depicted with open claws taking off in flight and one griffin is perched on a globe.
The goblet measures 5 1/2" tall, 3 1/2" diameter rim and a 3 1/4" diameter foot.
This is a very unique and wonderful goblet which will be a fabulous addition to any collection of early glass.
