Stunning antique Victorian quadruple silverplate tea set / teaset by James W. Tufts #4503 which has been recently restored and re-silvered. Teapot, 3-piece butter dish, lidded sugar bowl, waste pot and creamer pitcher! OUTSTANDING set - completely restored and re-silvered!
The antique quadruple silverplate teapot has an ornate tea spout, a decorative handle, thick applied decorative border along the top, together with a scalloped edge. The bright-cut work on the high-polished silver finish features flowers, leaves, ferns and scrolls. Flower finial on the lid. The detailed hand-work is just gorgeous and is applied to both sides. The inside of this silver tea pot is finished in a matte finish, and is exceptionally clean. No dings, dents or dimples - no silverplate wear or loss noted. No scratches either! This Tufts silver plate teapot measures 7.34" tall, 8.75" between the tip of the spout and the end of the handle, is approximately 5.5" in diameter and weighs 1 pound 8.1 ounces.
The matching 3-piece antique quadruple silverplate butter dish also has the thickly applied scalloped decorative edge near the top, large flower finial, decorative butter knife prongs and the matching bright-cut work on a high-polished silver finish. Smooth rounded side handles. The inside of the top of the butter dish is finished in a polished silver finish, as is the tray, but the inside of the base is finished in a matte finish. There are no dings, dents or other damage to note, and there are no scratches. The tray, though, does have pin-prick pocked areas, but this has been re-plated in silver, and therefore the marks are not much of a detraction. The inside of the butter dish base has similar markings. This Tufts silver plate butter dish measures 7.25" tall, 8" between the handles, is 5" in diameter and weighs 1 pound 8.2 ounces.
The matching antique quadruple silverplate covered sugar bowl with two handles contains the same design elements as the rest of this set, with the scalloped top edge, bright-cut floral design on both sides, two applied handles and a flower finial. The exterior finish of this sugar bowl is in a high-polished silver finish, with a matte silver finish to the interior. No dings, dents, or other damage, no silverplate wear or loss noted except a slight thinning of the silverplate along the top of the handles. This antique silver plate sugar bowl measures 6.75" tall, 7" between the handles, is approximately 5" in diameter and weighs 1 pound 1.2 ounces.
The matching antique quadruple silverplate waste bowl, or slop pot, with two handles contains the same design elements as the rest of this set, with the scalloped top edge, bright-cut floral design on both sides and two applied handles. The exterior finish of this waste bowl is in a high-polished silver finish, with a matte silver finish to the interior. No dings, dents, or other damage, no silverplate wear or loss noted, and no silverplate wear, loss or scratches noted. This restored antique quadruple silverplate waste pot measures 6.5" between the handles, stands 4.5" tall, is approximately 4.25" in diameter and weighs 13 ounces.
The matching antique quadruple silverplate creamer pitcher repeats the same design elements as the rest of this antique tea set with the scalloped top edge, bright-cut floral design, decorative handle and high-polished silver finish. The interior is finished in a matte silver finish. This piece, sadly, is the only piece with a bit of damage - a slight 1" dent to the side, as shown in the photos. Other than that, there are no other dings, dents, dimples or silverplate wear or loss to note. No scratches. This silver creamer pitcher measures 4.5" tall, 5.5" between the creamer spout and the tip of the handle, is approximately 4.25" in diameter and weighs 10.9 ounces.
Each piece of this Tufts silverplate tea set is touchmarked on the bottom as follows: JAMES W. TUFTS QUADRUPLE PLATED, the James W. Tufts' logo of a "T", and the pattern number "4503". It is quite unusual to find an antique silver tea set, in this pristine condition, which includes the butter dish in the set!
