RARE Antique Victorian CHERUB Secret Locket 18K Gold Enamel Pearl Angel Ring

One of the rarest and sweetest of sentimental Victorian jewelry examples we have encountered. A 18kt gold ring with hand-chased engraving and a gleaming bloomed finish. It is in astonishingly fine condition. Clearly a secret keepsake hidden away and treasured. An ethereal and heavenly Cherub or Angel is enameled with rosy cheeks and a pleasant smile. The wings are set with seed pearls. In the Victorian era, seed pearls often represented tears. This was likely a mourning piece and was tucked away as a reminder of a lost loved one. A cherished memorial jewel that was taken out and admired in nostalgia but was likely never worn. So precious! The Cherub opens to reveal a secret compartment with woven hair. Hallmarked "18" in a cartouche for 18k gold on the interior. Size 5 3/4-6. A tender and loving token of remembrance or Memento Mori.
