A single folding bookend with a pierced shou symbol and a carved hardstone disc in the center. The brass on the shou symbol body is engraved with a floral and bamboo design. The pierced hardstone disc in the center is intended to approximate the look of jade, and is carved with a design of bamboo. The stone is a translucent light green and is held in place with two rounded pins.
The base of the bookend is hinged and folds flat. The base has no felt on the bottom and has the word CHINA stamped into it.
The bookend has some heft and will hold back smaller books effectively.
6 ¼” (15.9 cm) tall x 4 5/8” (11.7 cm) wide x 2 ¾” (7.0 cm) deep. Disc in center is 1 ½” (3.8 cm) diameter. Weighs 11.2 oz (320 g)
There are no breaks or cracks. There is a slight nick at the top edge. There is spotting patina discoloration from oxidization over the years. There is discoloration by the hinge.
A great bookend with age and symbolism.
