A wooden lacquer box that shows age and much use. I love the mellowed reddish and yellow tones of the lacquer.
The hand-tooled wood box with matching lid has been coated in reddish lacquer and painted with designs of circles and swirling cloud or smoke patterns in yellow and black. You can see the lathe marks on the mouth rim, box and lid interiors. The box has such a wonderful smooth feeling when held.
There looks like Tibetan writing on the lid top.
7” (17.8 cm) tall x 6 7/8” (17.5 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 10.9 oz (765 g)
There is wear to the surfaces and it has a nice aged patina. There are cracks in the wood. One is on the edge of the lid. Another is on the outside of the body that doesn’t go through into the interior. There are small nicks and lacquer losses but these are lost in the shear age of the piece. The bare wood that is visible is darkened from age. It is an old piece of folk art. It feels good in the hand.
A wonderful piece of Tibetan folk art that will give a feeling of timelessness to the décor.
