Matched pair of Deco horse head bookends by Dodge circa 1930
Copper clad bookends of horse heads that are so very Deco.
Gray metal heavy bookends that are molded in the shape of horse heads and finished in a copper patina. The bookends have a very Art Deco molding with sleek lines, ridged mane, stepped base, and cut and chiseled features. The bases are covered in a green felt.
There are paper tags on each base that read, “CREATED AND MADE BY DODGE INC. LOS ANGELES NEWARK MIAMI. The tags have a deco graphic of a shield with a D and wings above. There is a sun with rays in the background.
MEASUREMENTS Each bookend measures 7 ½” tall (19.1 cm) x 4 ½” (11.4 cm) long x 3 1/8” (7.9 cm) wide. Total weight 3 lb 5.1 oz (1505 g)
CONDITION The bookends have oxidization marks and loss of patina in several locations (please check photos). The felt is entire but faded and worn. The labels are entire and look good for the age. There are no cracks or breaks. There are two tiny nicks on the neck by the head on one horse.
A great pair of Deco bookends to look good in a modern, mid-century, or even a Deco décor. Actually, they would look good just about anywhere.
