The six sided soft pewter-like metal tea caddies have auspicious molded decorations such as bats, pine trees, baby dragons with flaming pearls, and prunus blossoms. They are well detailed, well matched and have a substantial feel.

The caddies are made from a soft pliable metal that has been formed into six sided containers with a six sided foot. Each of the sides have designs molded into them. Several panels depict pine trees with the fungus of longevity. One a panel on each caddy depicts a plum tree with a bat flying by. The larger side panels have matching designs of a Chilong with the flaming pearl of wisdom. At the six sided shoulder a cylindrical neck rises with a round mouth. There are molded lappet bands at the shoulder and above the foot. Each caddy has a round lid with a red carnelian bead finial. The round neck and lid interiors show the marks of a lathe. The metal feels soft and cool consistent with age and the oxidization of the metal.

The word CHINA is etched on the base of each tea caddy.

MEASUREMENTS 4 ¾” (12.1 cm) long x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) wide x 5 5/8” (14.3 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lb 15.6 oz (1.34 kg)

CONDITION The tea caddies have no cracks or breaks. One caddy base has a flared edge to the metal at one junction. One lid base edge and caddy mouth have little dents. These don’t show on the outside. There are small wear scratches and nicks that are consistent with age and usage. They don’t detract from the look of the two caddies. The caddy with the flared foot has a visually slanted front at the shoulder where the pine panel shows.

A well-made pair of matching antique tea caddies with detailed, deep moldings. They will look good in a tea caddy collection or just use them to store your tea.
