The scent of sandalwood wafts upwards when the box lid is taken off. The wood has a tight grain and a rich dark reddish color with dovetails. The wood contrasts nicely with the carved pale green jade plaque on the lid.
A rectangular wood box with a shallow matching lid that has a dark reddish finish showing a nice tight wood grain. When opened the box smells like sandalwood. The box has six dovetail joints on each end. The wood feels smooth and looks shiny. You can see the nice graining of the wood. The lid has an indented flange that perfectly fits the corresponding raised edge on the box.
A jade plaque with a floral design has been inset into the lid. The jade has slight cloudy inclusions with a nice transparency. To hold the jade, the lid was cut out with a shallow cut. The lid top has rounded edges.
There is the mark CHINA etched on the base. There are no other marks or labels.

There are no cracks or breaks. There are a couple of small chips to the edges of the box. The jade looks perfect.
