Aesthetic Movement Victorian Pairpoint Silverplate Cake Basket Late 19th Century - image 1 of 6

A shiny, glittering Victorian cake basket by Pairpoint with a lovely and elaborate Aesthetic Movement medallion in the well.

The central well of the basket has a detailed Aesthetic Movement design of two birds symbolizing love and romance. The edge of the central basket has a repeating Eastlake geometric pattern. The area surrounding the central well is undecorated, which balances the elaborate designs of the rest of the plate. The handle finial looks like an elaborate crown and stands on its own.

The base is circular and has a ribbed column rising to the dish. The cake basket is ornate but has a balanced clean look. The piece has much silver and shines brightly.

There is a stamped mark reading “PAIRPOINT MFG CO. QUADRUPLE PLATE 1207” with a diamond design and the letter P in it on the bottom.

MEASUREMENTS

5 1/2” tall to the plate. 11 1/8” tall overall. 9 7/7” diameter. Weighs 1 lb 14.5 oz (865 g)

CONDITION

There are no dents, cracks, or breaks. There is some silver loss but it still has most of its silver and looks like a million dollars. There are some light scratches in the central well.

This will make a rich-looking serving piece for the holidays or fancy tea time.
