A silver plate frame with a pretty bird design and a very ornate pressed glass jar.
The clear glass jar is molded with circular designs. It is glass but that resembles cut crystal. The silver plate frame has an ornate finial and an ornate design of birds and branches at the base of the arms. The lid has a repousse design of torches and floral furnishes with an elaborate finial. The edge of the base has a repousse band of small lappets.
Both the frame and jar have no manufacturer’s mark.
9 ¾” (24.8 cm) tall x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 13.1 oz (830 g)
There is a small dent on the foot but it’s small and doesn’t cause the stand to wobble. Most of the silver has worn off but there is still some shine to the piece. The glass jar rests well but it might be a replacement because it doesn’t fit in the recessed spot in the frame, and the lid has no hole for a jam spoon. It still looks very nice with the glass reflections and ornate quality.
An intricate, hands on, glittering, Victorian jam with a pretty bird design that can still be used today.
