A teapot by the premier silver plate manufacturer James Tufts. The teapot has much detail and handwork.

The design on the central body is of matched floral sprays with a medallion in the center of each for a monogram. There is an arabesque band on the shoulder. There are garland designs on the spout and the handle. The hinged lid has a rounded knob. There is a shallow foot. The teapot is quite heavy.

The center of the base has the mark for James Tufts. It reads, “JAMES W. TUFTS QUADRUPLE PLATE BOSTON WARRANTED” encircling a star with the letter “T” in it. The number 1915 is below the mark.

MEASUREMENTS

8” (20.3 cm) tall x 9” (22.9 cm) long x 4 5/8” (11.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lbs 0.4 oz (920 g)

CONDITION

The teapot interior has spotting from rust. The band near the spout has a few tiny nicks on edges and two tiny dents; these are all tiny and are hard to see. There are silver losses; however the teapot still has a little bit of silver and after polishing has a shine to it.

A great teapot to add to a Victorian or Shabby Chic décor. So much handwork went into its manufacture.
