One of the most ornate cake baskets I have ever seen. This is like the Rolls Royce of cake baskets.
The basket interior is decorated with an etched pattern of ferns, grasses and flowers surrounding central round depression. The outer edge of the basket has a repousse design of hummingbirds, ferns, flowers and columns. There are two applied fern leaves equidistant under the handle mounts on the apron. The handle is very elaborate and has two floral finals.
The basket is supported by a column in the shape of a heron with a fish in its mouth. The column itself is covered with long grass-like leaves. The base on which the heron’s feet rest is highly detailed with rock and vegetation. There is a band around the foot has a floral repousse band.
There is an applied medallion on the base with the words ROGERS&BRO. TRIPLE PLATE in a circle around a fist with lightning bolts. There is also the number 1808.
9” (22.9 cm) tall to the top of the dish. 15 ½” (39.4 cm) tall with handle extended. 10 ½” (26.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 3 lb 7.8 oz (1585 g)
There is silver loss but it still shines up fairly well. The handle is a little loose and has trouble standing on its own. There are small pit marks in the central depressed circular well and some light scratches from wear in the interior of the dish and on the base. There are also small nicks on edges and a slight dent on the base foot. The cake basket stands flat with no rocking.
A large incredible over-the-top cake basket that will stand out in any décor. It will be a central focus. This piece is absolutely stunning.
