Chinese Ceramic Shiwan Teadust Transmutation Glaze Bottle Vase Mid-Late 19th C - image 1 of 13

An unusual Shiwan bottle with a round body, narrow stick neck and a tea dust transmutation glaze. The glaze is stunning, with greens, dark blue and turquoise. The glaze feels very soft to the touch.

The clay is red and heavy. The thick foot is mostly unglazed but the base is glazed.

MEASUREMENTS

7 1/2" (19.0 cm) tall x 4" (10.2 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 3.7 oz (560 g)

CONDITION

There are no breaks, chips or cracks. The body shows light wear scratches throughout. The vase has kiln flaws, such as glaze misses, particularly on the neck.

A very simple vase with a richly complex glaze that seems to change as you look at it closely.
