An ancient Chinese pot from the Han Dynasty that was molded with a shoulder decoration of archaic beasts.
The heavy dark clay pot has traces of reddish iron in the clay from when it was fired. The glaze is an ochre color and is thin and shiny. It a strip of molded relief of archaic beasts at the shoulder and dark spotting from firing and being buried for many centuries. The interior, mouth rim and flat base are unglazed.
6” (15.2 cm) diameter x 5” (12.7 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 10.6 oz (760 g)
There are no cracks or breaks, and the pot is in very good shape for the age. There are chips along the mouth rim and a few small chips on the bottom edge. There are many glaze chips on the body, especially on the dark spots. The glaze feels very soft and worn.
