A heavy, colorful and large antique plate with a transferware pattern of Japanese Imari.
The heavy molded plate has a deep indigo blue and iron red transfer design of flowers, arabesques, and triangular radiating designs from around a central medallion. Gilding has been hand painted over the transfer design. There is a shallow squared foot. The lip has an undulating ribbed border. There are three small floral paintings on the underside.
A black transfer mark in the center of the base has the name “MASON’S” over a crown. Below this are the words PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA.
10 ¼” (26.0 cm) diameter x 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 11.6 oz (780 g)
There is one chip on the rim. There are no breaks or cracks, and the plate rings like a bell. There is extensive wear to the center of the plate center, as well as raised areas. The gilding around the edge and in the center is very worn.
