An intricate very detailed molded censer with minute painted decoration.
A low fire ceramic has been molded in an archaic Chinese form called a fan ding. It has a very fine crackle base glaze and is decorated with over glaze enamels and gilding in a design of Buddhist disciples in a garden with gold floral sprays. The lid is pierced. The handles are mythical beasts that rise from the neck on both sides. The foot ends, the lid mouth and the lid flange on the body are not glazed. The piece has a nice old soft smooth feel.
9 ½” (24.1 cm) tall x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lb 6 oz (1100 g)
The crenelated mouth edge is missing one point. There is wear to the gilding. There are repairs to the edge of the lid. Two legs have been reattached. These repairs are not visible unless you turn the censer or lid upside down.
The piece has very detailed paintings. It has a wonderful old feel and look.
