A colorful hand-painted Japanese bowl with matching lid with designs of cherry blossoms and birds.
The designs on the thinly potted bowl and lid have been hand painted in a pale blue cobalt and iron red. The raised foot is unglazed while the base is glazed. The lid has a raised unglazed edge for handling. The interior of the lid is also decorated in a floral design using underglaze cobalt. The bowl has cobalt painted borders above the foot.
There is a cobalt mark on the center of the lid. It has been painted over and is hard to read.
5” (12.7 cm) diameter x 3 ¾” (9.6 cm) tall. Weighs 13.9 oz (395 g)
There is a small hairline on the lid. It starts at the edge and extends about 1”. There are no other chips, cracks, or breaks and the bowl rings true. There are wear scratches throughout and the gilding is moderately worn along the rim. There are a couple of glaze misses in the well of the bowl, as well as the customary kiln flaws, such as reserve spots, black spots, and pin holes.
An intricate, pastel blue covered antique bowl that adds richness and color to the home.
