A colorful and finely-painted stem dish with a painting of a phoenix in a garden with rocks and flowers in the central well. Around the rim is a border of bats, and the mouth is edged with gilding. The underside has a floral scrolling with a wave pattern at the foot. The foot and base are glazed in a turquoise.
The molded, scalloped edge porcelain dish has a raised rounded base. An iron red Tongzhi reign mark in a cartouche in Zhuanshu script is hand painted in the center of the base. The raised unglazed foot ring is feels very worn and smooth.
5 ½” (14.0 cm) tall x 5 1/8” (13.0 cm) wide x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 6.6 oz (185 g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The ribs of the dish interior show glaze loss. These losses continue into the central well. Gilding on the mouth rim is also worn. There are kiln flaws. Such as black spots and bumps, as well as separation in the turquoise glaze on the base surrounding the reign mark.
