A very large 18th Century Japanese porcelain bowl or basin with a decoration of scrolling peony design. Did I say very large? It is a huge 16" diameter.
The heavy porcelain basin has a wide lip and a thick glaze. The foot is shallow, rounded and unglazed. The base is glazed and has a central spur mark. The clay used is white and refined. The cobalt is a nice dark blue color. The design is extensive and well done.
16” (40.6 cm) diameter x 5 ½” (14.0 cm) tall. Weighs 7 lb 3.1 oz (3265 g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The glazes are fresh and bright. The bowl is bowed from firing.
A dramatic large bowl that will definitely make a statement. The age and artistry make it a rich addition to the home décor.
