A handsome well painted bowl with peony and butterfly designs that is a nice large size.
The hand potted porcelain bowl has a bluish tinge to the glaze and has been painted with a nice deep cobalt. The design is of scholar rocks with plantings of peonies, bamboo, and chrysanthemums with butterflies hovering above the plants.
The bowl has a raised, unglazed foot. The clay used is refined and white. The glazed base has a Buddhist twin fish design with a double blue ring.
Please note that we have a matching bowl in our shop to create a pair.
6 1/8” (15.6 cm) diameter x 3” (7.6 cm) tall. Weighs 14.9 oz (420 g)
There are two rim chips with hairlines coming off of them on opposite sides of the bowl. There is crazing to the glaze near one of the hairlines, that is probably concussion related. These marks in the glaze do not extend through the porcelain. There are also a number of rim frits on the mouth and rough spots on the foot. There is wear to the central well and outer body. There are kiln flaws, such as bumps, and black spots.
A very old large bowl to add to a collection or decorate with blue and white.
