A very old jar with decorative panels of landscapes on the jar and the matching lid. It has a deep, rich, dark cobalt blue. The design is of a hermit’s retreat near a mountain with a waterfall. The panels are surrounded by peony scrolling. The lid has a small ribbed finial. The glazes are thick and feel very soft to the touch.
The jar has a shallow unglazed foot ring. The mouth rim and the lid underside are unglazed.
MEASUREMENTS
4 ½” (11.4 cm) tall x 2 7/8” (7.3 cm) diameter.
CONDITION
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks and it has its original lid. There are kiln flaws such as pin holes, black spots, a glazed gouge, and rough areas at the mouth rim. There are slight wear scratches. The jar looks great and shiny.
A wonderful ancient jar to add to a collection of blue and white or a collection of Ming porcelains.
