An elaborate, well painted and potted large charger or platter with usual and very finely painted designs.

A large porcelain charger with polychrome paintings with much gilding. The central well has four panels with paintings of a mandarin’s household. These panels are surrounded by gilt and scrolling flowers with butterflies. In the center is a medallion with a bouquet of flowers and fruit with butterflies hovering. The cavetto has detailed painting of daily objects, music instruments, furniture, vases with people enjoying the rich life. The painting has shading, good line quality and accuracy. The faces have the amount of blush and facial expression typical for porcelains for the first half of the 19th Century.

The charger has a shallow cut foot ring that is not glazed. The base is glazed. There are no porcelain marks.

Provenance: From the Ellis Family collection, a well-known Pacific Northwest family. The collection was purchased in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

MEASUREMENTS
11 ½” (29.2 cm) diameter x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lb 4.0 oz (1020 g)

CONDITION
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks and the charger rings true. There is slight wear and slight gilt wear. The charger is in amazing good shape for the age. The enamels are bright and fresh.

A nice large piece to add to a collection or décor. I love how the ladies still have gilt ornamentation in the hair.
