Delicate, colorful, enameled celadon dish with a design of birds in a tree with butterflies flying above the flowers.

A heavy porcelain dish with sloping sides, fluted corners and a shallow unglazed foot ring that has been coated in a thick pale jade green celadon glaze. The base is glazed in a white glaze. The glazes feel very thick, smooth and look shiny. The celadon has been painted over in colored enamels in a design of birds, butterflies, peonies and a fruit tree with dangling fruit. The paintings are delicate with good line quality and an experienced perfection. The design is well balanced.

There is no mark or label.

MEASUREMENTS

8.75” (22.2 cm) long x 7” (17.8 cm) wide x 1.6” (4.1 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 9 oz (700 g)

CONDITION

There are no cracks, chips in the body or breaks. There are glaze losses on the over glaze enamel paintings, such as the butterfly wing on the right and the peony flower it hovers over. There are wear scratches on the interior body. The glazes are still bright and fresh looking. There is a small chip in the glaze on the outside. There is wear to the gilding on the rim.
