A large Japanese heavy porcelain charger with cobalt transfer designs of a boat and waves at a pagoda.
A crimped edge large heavy porcelain charger with cobalt transfers of Japanese designs. The crimped edge has an iron glaze to protect the charger from chipping. The white of the glaze has a slight blue cast. The cobalt in the transfer is a medium blue. The foot is rounded and unglazed. There is a single sager mark in the center of the glazed base.
11 ½” (29.2 cm) diameter x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) tall. Weighs.2 lb 3.5 oz (1015 g)
The central well of the plate has scratches from age and wear. There are mistakes to the transfer, such as smudges, blue spots, pimples, black spots, and blank spots. There are no cracks, chips, or breaks; the charger rings true. Even with all of the early transfer designs mistakes, it still has a nice large complete look.
A large charger to add to a collection of blue and white.
