Three colorful, fierce foo lions frolic in clouds around the sides of the bowl.
A small round bowl with a flat unglazed foot has been decorated in polychrome enamels. The design is of three foo lions in clouds playing with ribbons. There is a good luck peach in the central well. It is very colorful with yellow, red, blue and green enamels. The bowl is thinly potted and you can see the translucence when held to a light.
There is a square mark in the base center in iron red that looks like Mongolian script. There is also an incised CHINA mark on the base.
Provenance: The bowl is from the estate of the actor and singer, Burl Ives (best known for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer)
4 5/8” (11.7 cm) diameter x 1 15/16” (4.9 cm) tall. Weighs 5.8 oz (160 g)
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks, and the bowl rings true. There is a hairline in the glaze that you can see inside the bowl. It doesn’t seem to go through to the exterior of the bowl . There is wear to the gilding on the rim and above the foot ring.
A fun, colorful bowl to charm and add richness to your home décor. The foo lions are just too ferocious.
