A very large and colorful Chinese polychrome charger that is so thin that I’m amazed it has survived to today.

Thinly potted large porcelain charger that has been decorated with enameled blossoming peony floral motifs with curving arabesque foliage against a blanc de chine ground. The painter has left negative space so that the eye can focus on the exquisite floral design.

The foot is unglazed and has a nice buff color and is rounded. The base is glazed and has chatter marks as well as the potter’s rings under the glaze.

MEASUREMENTS

15 ½” (39.4 cm) diameter x 1 5/8” (4.1 cm) tall. Weighs 3 lb 7.3 oz (1570 g)

CONDITION

There are no cracks, chips, or breaks and the charger rings true. There are glaze frits on the rim. There are kiln flaws such as glaze separations, black spots, and pin hole reserves on the body. There is wear to the gilding. There are wear scratches on the well. Otherwise excellent condition. The glazes still look bright and fresh for the age.

A very large and showy porcelain charger to make a definite statement in your collection or décor. I love the deep rose colors.
