A hand painted gourd shaped vase with swirled facets decorated in iron red designs.
A molded porcelain gourd shaped vase with a small hexagonal mouth, long neck, and six sided upper vase to a pinched mid body with a six sided swirled, faceted lower body. The vase is hand decorated with fabric, floral designs and pagoda scenes painted with iron red enamel. Gilding lines separate out the different panels. The designs are very fine and delicate.
The foot is shallow, hexagonal and unglazed. The base is glazed. There is a mark on the base in a flowing Japanese script.
7 ¼” (18.4 cm) tall x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) diameter. Weighs 13.2 oz (375 g)
There are no breaks, cracks, or chips. There are a couple of very small losses to the iron red enamel at the mouth. Otherwise, the glazes look fresh and bright.
A colorful, delicate Japanese vase to grace a traditional home, Arts and Crafts, or shabby chic décor. So much hand work went into the production of this vase.
