Intricately painted and potted Japanese Satsuma bowl that has such a rich amount of gold painting. The painting is incredibly fine. The design is animated and very charming.
A large heavy ceramic bowl with a slight rise to the rim. The design is of a theater troupe in a garden setting. The mouth edge has a band of brocade like design. The painting is very fine and has a balanced design. The base glaze is a very fine pale beige crackle. Over this has been painted over glaze enamels and gilding. The glazes are subtle and pastel but with the addition of the gold they take on a rich glow. The foot ring is unglazed but the base is glazed. There are no marks or labels. There is a red stain on the base from a possible sticker.
14 ½” (36.8 cm) diameter x 2 7/8” (7.3 cm) tall. Weighs 6 lb 4.1 oz (2.84.k g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The glaze on the underside shows quite a bit of fine crackling from age. There is gilding wear along the mouth rim. The gilding and glazes are fresh and bright. There is a possible gild wear on the lower left. An actor holds a scroll and the scroll has gold dots. I’m not sure if this is the design or wear to the gilding.
A very rich large decorative piece that will show well from across the room. It will add richness, substance and elegance to your home.
