A fun, clever design of a fish on a fish-shaped plate.
A hand-potted and hand-painted porcelain dish which is extensively decorated with a fish as you’re looking down on it. An exaggerated head and tail of the fish are painted on either end of the fish-shaped dish. The fish is surrounded by flower arrangements and two jars. The dish was painted with under glaze cobalt blue and iron red and gold over glaze enamels. There are cobalt rings around the foot, and cobalt paintings of pine boughs on the back. It shows very well.
The dish has a shallow unglazed foot. There is a potter’s mark in Japanese on the glazed base. You can see the potter’s wheel marks under the glaze on the base.
11 ¾” (29.8 cm) long x 9 5/8” (24.4 cm) wide x 1 ½” (3.8 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 14.1 oz (850 g)
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The charger rings like a bell. The gilding is fresh and bright. There are very few wear scratches. There is a tiny rim frit by the fish’s mouth. I feel it more than see it.
A beautiful large fish dish to grace a dark corner of your décor. It will glisten and reflect.
