A thinly hand potted porcelain bowl with minute expert hand paintings of underglaze blue with a second firing and then painted with over glaze enamels. The little rice patterns were hand etched. Amazing.

The outside of the bowl has three distinct bands. Along the mouth there is a narrow band painted with a nice, dark cobalt blue. Below this is a wide band of stylized flowers and lines painted in red, green and gold. These bright enamels are painted around a pattern of etched rice grains. The rice grain pattern shows a translucence when held to the light. The bottom band is composed of loosely placed precious objects painted in cobalt under glaze.

The mouth of the Inside the bowl has been painted with narrow cobalt band similar to that along the mouth on the outside. Below that is a wide band that been left undecorated, except for the etched rice grains. The bottom of the bowl has a cobalt floral arrangement. The central decoration is bordered with a band of alternating red and gold swastikas.

A matching spoon accompanies the bowl. The inside of the spoon is decorated with a similar design as the outside of the bowl, including translucent etched rice grains. The underside of the spoon has five small sager marks.

The bowl is thinly potted by hand. It has a high unglazed foot and a glazed base. The base has a two character mark in underglaze blue. One of the characters means trinket. I couldn’t figure out the second character.
