Colorful, intricate, finely painted rose medallion porcelain dish in the shape of a leaf.
A heavy, hand potted and hand painted Chinese porcelain dish in the shape of a leaf. The dish has a foliate rim and a half cylinder at the end that represents a stem. There are four panels surrounding a central circular panel. The panels alternate between a pavilion scene and a design of birds with flowers and butterflies. Floral scrolling with butterflies and flowers surrounds the panels. The designs are painted in iron red, green, blue, yellow, rose, white, and gold over glaze enamels, with black used to outline and accent the design. The painting is very fine even showing faces and feathers. The underside has no decoration.
The foot is shallow and unglazed, but the base is glazed. The base glaze is thick, feels smooth and is not a brilliant white. It has a shiny appearance.
7 ¼” (18.4 cm) long x 5 ¾” (14.6 cm) wide x 1 ¼” (3.2 cm) tall. Weighs 11.2 oz (320 g)
There are no chips, cracks, or breaks, and the dish rings true. There is wear to the gilt on the mouth rim. The dish enamels look fresh and bright. There are tiny wear scratches but you have to look for them.
An interesting dish with very fine painting that will add to a Chinese porcelain collection or your set of Rose Medallion dishes.
